Hunger Relief Ministries was founded in response to the need in Forney, Texas for delivery of groceries and meals to those who could not afford them, or who could not otherwise get them. This was especially important during the COVID-19 restrictions and fears from March to December of 2020.
Because the founder, Michael Lewis, is a pilot, the ministry purchased a Cessna T310R aircraft at the beginning of 2019 to fly charitable missions for Angel Flight South Central and the Veterans Airlift Command. Mike has flown more than 50 of these missions, transported other people and ministry staffs on trips, and made deliveries of supplies to needful West Texas communities. Hunger Relief has also transported area pastors on much needed retreats to rejuvenate in these difficult times.
Hunger Relief Ministries has purchased properties in Forney, TX that might be appropriate for ministry activities. It is actively seeking the appropriate place for a community center and distribution facility for supplies.
As a founding partner of Forney Community Ministries, Hunger Relief Ministries is active in home rejuvenation, Forney ISD ministry activities, the First Presbyterian Church uniforms ministry, and others. That association has been extremely important to HRM's ability to meet needs in Forney, TX.
Hunger Relief Ministries is a registered 501(c)(3).
WE BELIEVE in One God, revealed as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes but without division of nature, essence or being.
“There is one God, the Father, from whom are all things, and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist” (1 Corinthians 8:5). (Matthew. 3:16-17; Matthew. 28:19; I Corinthians 12:4-6; II Corinthians 13:14; Ephesians 2:18; Ephesians 4:4-6)
WE BELIEVE that the Bible is God’s revelation of Himself to man. The authors were inspired by God through revelation of His Holy Spirit. But we must always remember that the text we read has been translated, and must be interpreted with wisdom and understanding. The Bible is the revelation of Jesus Christ, the Word of God. (Psalm 119:89; II Peter 1:20-21; Matthew. 4:18; Luke 21:33; II Timothy 3:16; John 1:1; Revelation 19:13)
WE BELIEVE that man has fallen through sin from his original innocence, and that only God’s grace can bring man back into fellowship with Him, which is God's holy plan. (Genesis 1-3; Romans 5:12-21; Romans 1:19-32)
WE BELIEVE that God sent His Son, Jesus Christ — conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, taking the form of man, but without sin — to fulfill all covenants with God and thereby redeem mankind from our fallen state through the Cross, in which He took all the sin of the world on Himself and paid the penalty. His resurrection from the dead and Ascension to the Father completed that redemption. “It is finished.” (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; John 19:30, II Corinthians 5:21; I Corinthians 15:1-8; Romans 4:25; Colossians 1:20-22; Hebrews 9:12, 22, 24-26)
WE BELIEVE that salvation comes through faith in Christ and his finished work on the Cross as a free gift rather than a reward for effort or worth. As Christ’s Body, believers have union with God, “Who alone has immortality.” (Romans 3:23; 6:23; 5:8; 10:9-10,13; Ephesians 2:8,9, I Timothy 6:16)
WE BELIEVE that believers are to be baptized by immersion in water as a symbolic testimony to their experience of the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord, and that they are to partake of the Passover Supper (communion) as a reminder of Christ’s sacrifice of His body and his blood, and His indwelling in us. (Matthew 28:19; Matthew 26:26-29; Luke 22:19-20; Acts 2:41; I Corinthians 11:23-34)
WE BELIEVE in the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the gifts of the Spirit operating in His Church and the power of the Spirit maintaining the believer in the daily walk of faith. The fruit of the Spirit, Christ’s character, is expressed in our lives when we get out of the way. (Luke 11:11-13; Acts 2:1-4, 38-39; Acts 8:14-17; Ephesians 5:18; I Corinthians 12-14; Romans 8:5-11; 14-17, 26-27; I Peter 2:24; James 5:14; Acts 4:29-31)
WE BELIEVE the love of God expressed and fulfilled in Christ on the cross compels us to return that love to Him, to our brethren and to our neighbor, despite the many risks. In fact, the believer has no other agenda. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbour as yourself.” (Luke 10:27) “He that loves not does not know God; for God is Love.” (I John 4:8)
WE BELIEVE that Satan, the father of lies, is real and exists to deceive the saints and the church–mainly in our own thoughts – and that we can only resist him through Christ, abandoning ourselves to Him in the certain knowledge that the Evil One was defeated at the Cross; through confession and the exhortation of the brethren; and the promise that “He who has begun a good work in you will perform it.” (Job 1:6-12; Matthew 4:1-11; Philippians 1:6; Colossians 2:15; Hebrews 2:14)
WE BELIEVE that Christ will return personally and visibly at the end of time to bring the world to its appropriate end. The unrighteous will be consigned to hell, a place of destruction, and believers will share in eternal life with the Lord in heaven, “who alone holds immortality.” (I Timothy 6:16; I Thessolonians 4:13-18; John 5:24; Mark 9:43-48; Revelation 22:12-15)
